In 2012 my husband and I were planning to expand our family but unfortunately it was not as easy as with our first child. After consulting with the doctor, I was diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome); in which the doctor told me it would be very difficult for me to have any more kids, unless I made a change in my eating habits and sedentary life.
This news were devastating for me and my whole family, but like anything else I wasn’t going to let this stop me from believing I could become a mother for a second time . I decided that I was the only one who could make a change so I started eating better and hitting the treadmill and at that moment I fell in love with jogging, I kept making progress and noticed I was no longer jogging but I was running which I would have never guessed in a million years.
A few months had past and I received the best news ever! I was expecting my second child, I was beyond excited and I knew that all the hard work and dedication had finally paid off and gave me the most precious gift. In 2015 I had the great honor to become a 5K road warrior for The River Bank Run and this gave me the opportunity to not only learn how to run properly and to run outside but it gave me the opportunity to meet amazing people who were in the same journey as me; who inspired me to be a better runner. Fast forwarding to now I have ran several 5K’s and have become stronger that I’ve ever been, because I have focused on my physical health more than ever since my goal is to be a strong and active mother for my children.
Running changed my life and for that reason, I am excited to be part of the Road Warrior Team once again but this time, I will be running the 25K which is a dream of mine. I know it will be a long journey, but with the support of my team members and coaches, I can make it happen. I am also very proud to be running for a charity this year; I will be running for the DeVos Children Hospital because I know it is a great organization and it they do a lot for the kids in our community.
My goal is to learn more technique and challenge myself to achieve this great accomplishment, and also to inspire others to be active and become better physically and mentally. Nothing is impossible even if others tell us it is; only we can change a negative outcome, if we have the right attitude and determination.
