Important Race Day Information

Start Times

5K Run: 7:00a (staggered start)
10K Run: 7:40a (staggered start)

Start and Finish Line

Start Line

  • Monroe Avenue and Lyon Street
  • Line up in order of event start times and their personal pace per mile, beginning with the 5K Run

Finish Line

  • Ottawa and Lyon
  • Cross the finish and proceed to Post-Event Refreshments


Aid Stations

  • Pre-event station located at the start (Monroe Avenue and Lyon Street) will have Ice Mountain water 
  • 25K Course located approximately every 1.5 miles will have Gatorade, Ice Mountain water; Orange slices and ice will be at half-way point near Veterans Memorial Drive and Butterworth; Clif Gel Shots (strawberry and vanilla) at mile 6
  • 10K Course near miles 2, 3 and 4.5 will have Gatorade, Ice Mountain water
  • 5K Course near mile 1.5 on 5K course will have Gatorade, Ice Mountain water
  • Canine Water Station on the 5K Walk course near the halfway point, just prior to the Aid Station. Water and disposable bowls will be available for all canine participants. 

Event Check-In, Changes and Late Registration

  • Friday, May 12, 2017 from 11a to 8p in DeVos Place (303 Monroe Avenue NW, Grand Rapids)
  • Event Check-in and event changes are available on Saturday, May 13 beginning at 6a at DeVos Place
  • Late registration is NOT available on Saturday

Finish Fest

Celebrate with other participants, friends, family and volunteers at the Finish Fest on Calder Plaza from 7:30a to 2p

  • Participants receive one free beverage; No Problems, Budweiser, Mich Ultra, Pepsi products or Ice Mountain water
  • Beverage tickets sold outside the tent - cash only. Picture ID will be required
  • Food concessions available from Buffalo Wild Wings
  • WOOD TV8 Race broadcast and live shots of finish line on the Jumbo Tron
  • Live music from Great Scott!
  • Tents to change into dry clothes
  • Metro PCS charging stations
  • Post-race yoga stretches

Free Showers and Lockers

  • David D. Hunting YMCA, 475 Lake Michigan Drive, from 6a-2p. 
  • Show your Fifth Third River Bank Run participant number at the desk for access to the YMCA
  • Parking at the YMCA is not available for non-members - park in Dash Lot 7

Gear Check

  • Saturday 6a-12p - DeVos Place (303 Monroe Ave)
  • Participants will receive a clear gear check bag when picking up bib and t-shirt
  • Place gear in the official clear bag, pull the gear check tab off the bib and attach it to the bag before entering DeVos Place on Saturday
  • Gear must be claimed no later than 12p
  • Fifth Third Bank cannot be held responsible for any lost or stolen items

  • Calder Plaza from 6:30a to 12:30p 
  • Providing event-related information

Medical Support

  • Provided by Metro Health Hospital, Metro Health Sports Medicine and American Medical Response 
  • Available near the end of each Aid Station and at the finish line
  • Medical Instructions for Participants


  • Sponsored by Gazelle Sports will be available for the 25K to pace in the 6-12 minute/mile categories 
  • Pacers will be wearing brightly colored Offiicial Pacer shirts carrying large, yellow signs with specific pace per mile listed

Parking and Transportation

Pre-Event Broadcast

  • NEWSRADIO WOOD 1300 AM and 106.9 FM, and ESPN 96.1 FM providing weather, parking and event updates from 6 to 8a
  • Wire to Wire live event coverage on Both WOOD Radio and ESPN 96.1 from 8a to 10:30a

RaceJoy App


  • GPS Progress Alerts - Receive GPS-based progress alerts at mile points on the course for current pace and estimated finish time, post to your Facebook and Twitter walls and have friends and family track your performance.
  • Live GPS Tracking - Supporting spectators can track your blue dot moving along the course from home or at the race site, NearMe proximity alerts notify spectators when you are drawing near and find each other using RaceJoy’s MeetUp tool.
  • Send-a-Cheer - Receive fun, motivational audio cheers from your supporting fans and start sending cheers to others doing the race at any time.

Restroom (portable)

  • Near the start line
  • Approximately every 1.5 miles along the event course (near Aid Stations) 
  • After post-event refreshments on Ottawa Avenue 
  • Finish Fest area on Calder Plaza
  • Handicap accessible portable restrooms will be located near the start and finish lines, on Calder Plaza and at the halfway point on the 25K course

Results (preliminary)

  • Available online after you finish on Saturday
  • Official results may take up to 24 hours to process
  • Participants who finish the 25K event after the finish line closes at 12p will be considered unofficial finishers and will not be included in the Official Results
  • 25K runners not maintaining a 3.5 hours finish pace are participating at their own risk without race services
  • Team results will be available online no later than Tuesday, May 16


  • The Chronotrack B-Tag System will be used to score all events
  • Registered participants will receive a bib number that must be worn on race day with the attached B-Tag
  • Keep your B-Tag attached to your bib on the front of your shirt to ensure your results are recorded properly
  • Do not alter the bib in any way or wear it on your shorts/pants

Two Hour Club hosted by ITC

  • Look for your designated area just behind the Elite Athletes at the 25K starting line
  • Participants must have finished the 2016 25K event in two hours or less and registered as a 2017 Two Hour Club participant 
  • Fifth Third Bank’s Gillett Auditorium from 6:00a to 12:30p
  • Private gear check
  • Private restrooms
  • Refreshments 
  • Access through the Fifth Third Bank doors on the plaza near the corner of Lyon Street and Monroe Avenue

Weather Conditions

  • Average temps range from the low 40's to 60's at 7:30a and climb throughout the morning
  • Go to Wood Radio 106.9 | 1300 during event week for weather updates and information
