Hi my name is Carrie Seeley. I am so excited for the opportunity to be Road Warrior. My goal is to inspire others to achieve a goal that they thought they never could. My story started 2 years ago on Mother’s Day. I had a photo taken with my children. Well, you know how that goes. I thought to myself that I cannot remain in that physical shape any longer. I took control and started Weight Watchers. I also knew I needed to do some exercise, I chose running. It gave me time to think and enjoy being outdoors. At first I could only walk. but I kept working and eventually I could run. I am not telling you that it was easy because anything worth having is worth working for. I wanted to be healthy. I wanted to be a role model for my kids. I also wanted to show to myself that I could do something that I put my mind to. So, I set a goal of doing the Fifth Third River Bank Run 10K. For me, I needed a challenge. I knew I could do the 5K but did not know if I could do the 10K. I remember on a Saturday in April of this year, I said to myself, “I better see if I can really do this 10K”. I could and I did! I was so excited; it was the best feeling of putting my mind to do something and being able to accomplish it. The next challenge was the actual race! I had determined that I was not going to walk at anytime. I finished the race and did not walk one bit. I want others to stop putting barriers in their way, stop giving excuses, stop saying I can’t. Yes you can. Along the way, I have lost 75 lbs and I have maintained it now for one year. My journey is not about what I have lost, the weight, but what I have gained, the confidence. I cannot wait to encourage others towards the goals they have chosen for themselves.
I am excited for the journey with the other Road Warriors. I have been a solitary runner so; I cannot wait for the comradely of others with similar goals as me. It will be exciting to see where this journey will take all of us. The Road Warrior Program sets us up for victory. It is there to help train us to become better athletes. The coaches are here to push us on not only physically but also mentally. It will be great to be a part of group of that is all striving to accomplish what we never thought we could!
